Step 1: Count your channels (and plan for growth)
The channel count is the maximum number of cameras an NVR records:
- 4 channels — apartments and small shops (entrance, interior, balcony, garage).
- 8 channels — villas, larger shops and offices — the most common choice.
Rule of thumb: buy at least 2 channels more than you need today. Adding a camera later is easy; replacing an NVR isn't.
Step 2: PoE or not?
NVRs with built-in PoE ports (/4P and /8P models) power each camera through its network cable — plug and play, no separate switch. Non-PoE models (like the K1/K2 series) cost less but need a PoE switch. For new installations, built-in PoE keeps things simple.
Step 3: AcuSense or standard?
AcuSense NVRs (NXI series) add deep-learning person/vehicle classification at the recorder level: alarms only for real threats, plus target search that finds every human or vehicle event in seconds instead of scrubbing hours of footage. Step 4: One hard drive bay or two?
K1/Q1 models have one SATA bay; K2/Q2 models have two — for longer retention or higher capacity. An 8-camera system with 30+ days of retention usually justifies dual bays.
