The DS-2CD1021G0-I is the starting point in genuine Hikvision cameras — the cheapest camera in the whole shop. An outdoor 2 MP Full HD bullet with infrared night vision up to 30 metres and a body that resists dust and rain. It does the basic job any surveillance camera has to do: a clear picture by day, clear black and white by night, and continuous recording to the NVR.
Its place on the ladder, honestly: this is the "basics" camera — no microphone, no colour night lighting, and simple motion detection (it will alert on any movement, not on people specifically). Want audio, hybrid lighting and person/vehicle recognition? The DS-2CD1023G2-LIU costs more and gives you all three. But if you are covering a corridor, a garage or a roof and you want the largest number of cameras on the smallest budget — this one lets you cover four points for the price of two from a higher tier.
Where it actually gets used
A building roof or a garage: basic coverage for places that need neither audio nor colour at night. Secondary points in a large system: the basic cameras in the corridors, the higher tier on the entrances. A first system on a limited budget: four of these plus an NVR is a complete system at a very reasonable price.
