The DS-KIS212 is the cheapest complete intercom kit we carry — and the simplest to install. It is a four-wire analogue kit: an HD door station + a 7-inch indoor monitor, wired directly, plug & play, with no network, no router and no configuration. You mount it, you connect the four wires, and it works.
The honesty you are owed before you buy: this kit is analogue — which means there is no Hik-Connect app and no answering from your phone. You answer and open from the indoor monitor only. If answering from your phone while you are out of the house matters to you, pay the difference and take an IP kit: the DS-KIS604-P costs more and comes with the app and the higher resolution. But if what you need is a simple intercom that works with no internet at all — for the family house, for your parents' flat, for somewhere the connection is not dependable — the KIS212 saves you a substantial part of the cost and does the core job reliably.
Where it actually gets used
Your parents' house: one simple screen with no apps and no settings — a button, a picture, and the door opens. Areas with a weak connection: the system does not need internet at all. A straightforward family home: it can be expanded to two door stations and three indoor monitors on the same system.

Can I answer from my phone? No — and that is the single most important thing to know before you buy. The system is analogue and you answer at the indoor monitor only. Want the phone? Take the DS-KIS604-P (an IP kit).
Why is it so much cheaper than the other kits? Because it is analogue on direct wiring — no network, no switch, no IP processing. Simpler technically = cheaper, and at the same time easier to install and to maintain.
Can I add a screen on another floor? Yes — the system supports up to 3 indoor monitors and 2 door stations.
