The DS-KD8003-IME1 is Hikvision's modular door station — you start with this base unit (a 2 MP camera with a 146° wide angle, a call button, a speaker and a microphone), then add modules as you need them: a number keypad, a card reader, apartment names, or a DS-KD-DIS display. One system that grows with you from a villa with a single button to a complete apartment building.
When to choose it, and when not to: if you need a door station for a single-family villa and nothing more — this is the cheapest IP door station we sell and it does the job very well. If it is a two-family villa (a duplex) and you want two ready-made buttons with no modules, the metal DS-KV8213-WME1 suits you better (it costs more, but comes with two buttons and a built-in card reader in an IK08 aluminium body). And if it is a residential building — the KD8003 with the keypad module and a DS-KD-DIS display is the only professional way to do it.
Where it actually gets used
A villa: the unit on its own plus an indoor monitor (such as the KH6350) is a complete intercom. A residential building: add a keypad and a display module — the visitor types the apartment number and only that apartment rings. An office or a company: add a card reader — staff enter with a card and visitors ring.

What else do I need to make it a working intercom? At least one indoor monitor — the cheapest combination is the KD8003 plus a KH6110 monitor. Or take the ready-made DS-KIS602 kit (this same station plus a 7-inch monitor and a PoE switch).
Why does it open two locks? A pedestrian door and a car gate, for example — each on its own independent relay.
Can I add the modules later? Yes — that is the whole idea of modular: start with the basic unit and add a keypad or a card reader whenever you need it.
